What is 10 X 10?
10 x 10 is a performance event of ten 10-minute plays at the Heritage Theatre in Gympie. A beautiful 400 seat, fly tower, proscenium arch theatre.
While the 10-minute play performance concept is not new, the purpose here is to initiate this project to create a huge knock-on effect in the wider Gympie community. Our aim is to bring about a creative social change in self-image to Gympie and that of regional towns in general. The call for 10 minute plays throughout the local and thcommunity encourages young and/or established writers the opportunity to have their plays performed, and more importantly seen, by an audience.
There is no prerequisite theme; the work need only be local and original. The benefits in bringing these plays to life. Once the 10 plays have been selected by a ‘volunteer committee’ of performing arts professionals and supporters, they are then offered to members of the community, i.e. wannabe actors and directors, to rehearse and perform. In this way the work is created and performed by local talent to local audiences, which in turn results in a loop of creative community engagement. The product is hence home-grown and becomes a local source of pride and connection.
Come and see the 10 plays and meet the writers and the actors!
One performance only.
